Not one of her best, but not bad. Too many battle scenes for my liking and less of what makes Allende great. Daughter of Fortune and Ava Luna are more what you'd think of when you think of Allende and this book isn't really like those.

After reading "House of Spirits" years ago, I fell in love with Isabel Allendes. I have read nearly all of her books but have always felt that they fell short of the standard she set in that first book I read. "Ines of My Soul" returns her back to that original quality. The character development, the history, and the movement of the story are fantastic.
