The plot is thickening in the Lymond Chronicles. Fabulous settings: Scotland, Malta, Turkey; 3-dimensional characters, both real and fictional, and a really villainous villain. A reader learns a lot about the strife between Christian and Moslem beliefs and history and culture. And, Francis is the perfect romantic anti-hero: flawed, but sexy, smart, accomplished, intellectual.

Book Three in the Lymond series. Quite a spectrum from France to Northern Africa and Malta, to Scotland again. The entire story is an elaborate reveal, and the end of it all is fairly terrifying.
