Love this book, especially Ellen! A remarkable young heroine determined to make her own way in the world, on her terms.

Don't be put off by it being an Oprah book.

I didn't like this book because it was really depressing. Almost all of Ellen's family dies and the rest of it hates her, so she's pretty much on her own. I thought it was the opposite of Catcher in the Rye because Ellen had to grow up so fast to keep herself alive while Holden didn't want to grow up at all.
