America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It

by Mark Steyn

In this, his first major book, Mark Steyn--probably the most widely read, and wittiest, columnist in the English-speaking world--takes on the great poison of the twenty-first century: the anti-Americanism that fuels both Old Europe and radical Islam. America, Steyn argues, will have to stand alone. The world will be divided between America and the rest; and for our sake America had better win. (read review)

Excellent insight into the declining state of western civilization and the dangers we are facing from Jihad-minded Muslims. A wake-up call worth heeding and a fun read!

Some excellent writing, good arguments and interesting data are clouded by what seems to be unbendable author bias. The facts appear forced to fit the argument at times. The writing is clever (with chapter and section headings like "the four horsemen of the Eupocolypse") and partially convincing. For me, it's hard for me to put my finger on "the straw man that broke the camel's back" but I found, by pushing his views so far, straining logic and language to do it, the author lost me.

A sobering view of what the world will be like (and in some parts already is like) if we don't wake up and do something soon.

This is an awesome and scary book. It reveals the demographics behind our changing times and the real danger of "islamic facism" that we face today. Wake up people. There is a war against our way of life being waged against us today and If you don't wake up it might be to late!!!

Funny and well written with striking examples. Solutions seems rather fluffy, but Steyn's anti-government stance is probably the right answer to the West's problems.

Very chilling - hard to argue with his data or conclusions. Europe is a goner!

Mark Steyn has written a penetrating analysis of "diversity," drawing on demographics and many examples. He's also an excellent writer with a great wit. Conservatives know Steyn because he writes the back page for National Review. This book will make you think.
