Oates' collection of short stories explores the dark and gruesome aspect of the female pysche. From an innocent six year old jealous of her baby brother, to a 70 year old killer remorseful on her death bed, Oates' female protagonists never faulter in conveying a feeling of utter grisliness. Beware the female species!

Although not such a huge short story fan, this collection definetly did manage to hold my interest until the end.
