This is the second book in the Troubleshooters series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A lot more action than in the first story. Each book offers more than just the primary story between the hero and heroine. There are at least two other secondary stories that connect. One of these is the story between Sam and Alyssa. Wow... :)

I can remember that I didn't always agree with Meg's way. I understand why she did what she did... to save the life of her child and grandmother. But I was beginning to feel bad for John with all she fooled him about! I loved the backstory her grandmother was telling.

Meg Moore had worked as a translator at the American embassy in Kasbekistan. Now, Meg's daughter Amy and grandmother, Eve, have been captured by a lethal group called the Extremists, who demand Meg bring the Kazbekistani ambassador to them or the hostages will be killed. The only one Meg can think of who can be of help is Lt. John Nillsen of the U. S. Navy SEALs. Once he is aware of her predicament, John recalls their time together which began in Kazbekistan and ended three years ago in Washington, D.C. At that time, Meg was in a shaky marriage, but John had fallen hard for her. He'd reluctantly left her and hadn't seen her again. Now she was in big trouble and John gathered his Troubleshooter's Team 16 men to help her.

The story is a really good, exciting one with substories added in. Meg's grandmother, Eve, plays a great part in it; Sam Starrett (SEALs) and Allyssa Locke (FBI) are probably going to be in a later book.

Throughout the time Meg was attempting to save her daughter's and grandmothers' lives, she was not cooperating with John, making it really hard for him to protect her. A scary trip south in her car, transporting the drugged ambassador, has an interesting twist. Finally, Meg lets John take over, but there's a problem: the kidnappers say they've already killed the hostages, and now John's focus has to be on making Meg want to continue to live.

Sam and I are both chocoholics. We both love eating Mr. and Mrs. with peanuts too. The yellow peanut Mr. reminds me of Sam.

This book was the starts of the fire better known as Sam and Alyssa.

Sam = Sam is Alyssa's man.

"The United States refuses to negotiate with terrorists." Meg Moore remembered the warning from her job as a translator in a European embassy. Those same words will spell out a death sentence for her daughter and grandmother who have been kidnapped by a lethal group called the Extremists. Meg will do anything to meet their unspeakable demands; anything—even kill—to save her child.

When Navy SEAL Lieutenant, junior grade, John Nilsson is summoned to Washington, D.C., by the FBI to help negotiate a hostage situation, the last person he expects to see holding a foreign ambassador at gunpoint is Meg. He hasn't seen her in years, but he's never forgotten how it feels to hold her in his arms. John could lose his career if he helps her escape. She will lose her life if he doesn't. . . .

I have enjoyed many of the Troubleshooters books with their many characters and storylines. But for some reason, I had no interest in finishing this one. My notes indicate a lack of chemistry between the leads and therefore a lack of timely growth in their relationship. I did end up skimming this one to the end some weeks later and determined it would have been somewhere in the B- or C+ range.
