Maybe I've read too many romance novels, but this reminded me a lot of Susan Elizabeth Phillips' novel, It had to be you. Both are great novels. Faith Duffy inherits her elderly husband's hockey team. Ty Savage, the team captain is not looking forward to playing for an ex-stripper and playboy bunny. Since this is a romance novel, sparks fly between the two. All in all, this was a fun read, but not quite as filled out as Susan Elizabeth Phillips' was.

A reasonably fun read but not as good as Gibson's other work, especially the rest of her books about the Chinooks hockey team.

I enjoyed this book. I have liked all the books of Rachel Gibson's that I have read. If I have one complaint, it is because there were many errors regarding hockey. As a hockey fan, these errors bothered me. If you are writing a book with the lead male character as the captain of an NHL team and the lead female is the team owner, the author is responsible for ensuring she/he researches the game. I will grant that most readers won't notice these errors unless they're fans of the game.
For instance, there are no 3 minute penalties in hockey. For minor penalities (hooking, slashing) a player gets 2 minutes. For majors, such as fighting, it's 5 minutes.
When she described the final round of the playoffs, they alternated games - the first in Seattle, the second in Pittsburgh. In reality, the team with the best season record hosts the first 2 games and their opponent gets the next 2. Then they alternate games.
She also described the concept of free agency incorrectly - implying that a free agent played without a contract. No player in the NHL plays without a contract - the league and players union wouldn't allow it. Free agency begins after the playoffs end on July 1. She also implied that Ty was able to negotiate a trade himself which wouldn't be possible. He may have waived a no-trade clause but the GM of the team would be the one who negotiated the trade.
I realize some people may think I'm being overly picky however, if you're a fan of a sport and you read something where it is clear the author didn't research properly, you would probably be bothered as well.
I did really like the book despite the apparent lack of research into the game being featured.

I liked it but the hockey part was off which distracted from the story.

I am a huge Rachel Gibson fan. There are very few of her books I haven't absolutely loved. Unfortunately (and very sadly), this one didn't work for me. It was, well, blah. It moved slowly and the leads didn't have all that much chemistry.
In addition to its lack of zip, the plot was contrived, the villain was so cardboard, and the ending was a complete disappointment. My aggravation was such that I had to put the book down at times. And, I'm sorry - it was difficult for me to get past the fact that the heroine was a former stripper and Playboy centerfold. Most of the leads' time together, once it started (which was a long, long time), centered on sex. I know I sound old fashioned here but honestly - when did the leads really have time to get to know one another? How could the hero proclaim his love so strongly in the end with the presumption of forever after? And the ending - I was rolling my eyes big time during those last 30 or so pages.

But notice - even a poorer Rachel Gibson (comparative to her other books) still receives three stars. Her way of writing a hero's thoughts is golden and there were still things that made me smile.

Cute story, especially if you like Hockey. If not, you'll skip a lot of pages. I love Hockey, so I read it all -- bizarre love story of an ex Playmate who marries an old old man, he dies and leaves her his Hockey team.
