This book was one of the options my faculty had to choose from for our annual book studies. I did not choose this one. However, this past weekend, at my mother's house, I was telling her about the book I'm currently reading, "The Memory Keeper's Daughter". She, coincidentally, had recently read that book. It launched a discussion about recent "good reads". Turns out, one of her oldest friends, Molly, with whom she taught in a middle school Title One classroom in the early 70's, sent her this book. It reminded her of one of their "non-readers" they shared almost 40 years ago, Algae. A child that, though he remains faceless for me, I have heard about for years and know the details of his story as though he was one of my own students. I can't wait to read this book!
