this was the first book by david baldacci that i read, and boy i have to say, he's an amazing writer... it kept me at the edge of my seat throughout the ride... i got a little too overboard towards the end. still a very fine finish

Great thriller. Didn't see half of the murders coming.

Great read. It was made into a movie starring Clint Eastwood and although the movie was good the book is even better.

After reading Girsham and Archer, I am confused why Baldacci is not more popular American author? Nonetheless, enjoyed thoroughly. Thankfully it was not American-Superhero-Saved-World-Types.

Highly impressed by Baldacci's ability at characterization and details. I think I will rate this guy more than other two I mentioned earlier. I think even Crichton and Dan Brown.

The novel is a political thriller but not very well developed. I liked the idea but it was a little slow in development and very predictable in many ways It was his debut novel and it is the first one of his I have read.

Kristel said: Three Stars. "absolute power corrupts absolutely" Lord Acton

Luther Whitney is a thief who becomes a witness to a murder involving the president of the United States. What he sees makes him feel guilty, fearful and then fighting mad. This is Baldacci's debut novel. I thought it started slow but gets up speed as the suspense builds. The novel addresses family relations, money and greed, politics and power. There are a lot of character's in this novel but there are no questions as to who are the good guys and the bad. The question is how many will die because of an abuse of power. This may not be his best book.
