“it's an international best seller for crying out loud
I thought it was ok, but I did not really warm up to Nora or Leonora”
“I'm such a sucker for these historical-combined-with-parallel-modern stories! This is the third or fourth such book this year! And how many of them also featured Venice? (Actually, it looks like the 5th one this year, and the third featuring Venice.) And at one point I see I wrote that this is not my favorite plot device...that's because I get caught up in one story and hate going back to figure out what was going on in the other story. Otherwise, I do enjoy two stories in one and seeing how they are tied together.”

The author weaves the story of a fictional 17th century artisan with his modern day descendent but it's not necessarily skillfully done so it's hokey in parts. So 4 stars because I enjoyed the book even if it's probably 3.5 stars in its execution.”

It's one of those novels that goes back into the renaissance one chapter and modern day the next. I usually don't mind those, but the historical chapters in this book bothered me a great deal. The author was very focused on giving INFORMATION about that era in Venice and that got in the way of the story.
I also felt the modern part was very predictable.
I wouldn't stay up past 10 pm to read this book.”
“It was a very quick read. I enjoyed it and learned a few tidbits about Venice and glassblowing, so it was a great light read. The 17th Century portion was the best. I didn't feel a strong connection with Nora/Leonora, but it was definitely interesting enough to read in just a few days.”

Loved the setting and descriptions - Venice and the art of glass-making. Two inter-relating stories set in the past and present. Would have liked a little more depth to the characters.”
