Every election year I re-read this. Especially since this year (2008) holds several parallells to the 1972 election. With his usual irreverent style, Thompson manages to succeed where more "serious" pundits fail: at succinctly dissecting the American political process and going over the mechanics of what, in some cases, reads more like a combat campaign than an orderly effort to select a nation's leader. A picture of the early 1970's which is not to be missed.
