- Edith: Main character; owner of the Good Shepherd Bread and Breakfast
- Charles: Edith's husband; the town pastor
- Myrtle: Guest at the inn over the Christmas holidays. And old woman who was dropped off unexpectedly. Very opinionated and causes trouble in the inn and in town.
- Colin and Amy: Young, broke couple who arrive at the inn in a colorful bus that needs repair. Amy is very pregnant. They are on their way to California.
