Listen to this on audiobook! The two narrators make the characters come alive in this suspenseful novel.

This was the first book I read for the new book club that I joined with my some of my scrapbooking friends.

For me, it was hard to get into, a bit boring, not really a ghost story, disturbing in places, and confusing at times.

There were parts of the book that I enjoyed, and I made my way thru waiting for it to get better!

It did make for a good book club discussion!

Excellent! Great story, great characters. Good old fashioned british mystery meets good old fashioned british fiction. Jane Austen comes to mind, minus the flowery romantic plots. Written by a, possibly obsessive, lover of books; this attitude certainly shines through.

The Thirteenth Tale is definitely a page-turner! This book was really fun to read. It's a book-lover's fantasy in many ways: It deals with literature, a mysterious fiction writer, a biographer, and with research. The study guide at the end of the book makes a big deal out of The Thirteenth Tale's intertextuality and symbols, but, despite the fact that this is a book that deals with books, I feel like reading the text in order to analyze it deeply would have taken away from the sheer thrill of letting the story unfold.

Charlotte Bronte gets a fresh coat of paint in this modern English tale. It's Gothic, but not too Gothic. And for language lovers, it's a feast. Setterfield sets a high bar for herself with this debut novel.

I picked this up just before my birthday as it is on the 13th and coincided with the title. I loved it. It kept my interest from cover to cover. I couldn't put it down. I loved the viivid characters and the wrestling with inner demons and eventual reckoning. This is such a hard thing for many to do. Do read this book. Great rainy day read.

Any fan of Bronte will love this novel--while contemporary, the plot has a feel similar to her gothic novels.

I was captured by this gripping mystery tale set in a vibrant literary and physical landscape. Is fiction more true than real life? How ironic that after a meltdown, ostensibly brought on by sleeplessness and reading too much Jane Eyre, the narrator is prescribed a regimen of reading Sherlock Holmes.
