So much awesome contained here. If you're offended by blood, carnage and cursing then I suggest you stay far, far away from this story. If these things don't bother you then you're in for a treat. Not my most favorite. It was interesting and there were certain plot twists that intrigued me, but as a whole I wasn't too fond of it.

Saw the movie and thought it was crazy but an intriguing concept so when Chris got the book for his birthday, I figured I'd give it a go. In all, the movie was pretty faithful to the book although the story of Big Daddy was changed. If you haven't seen the movie, it's a comic about an ordinary teenager who is a bit of a geek and short of friends deciding that his life is boring and why don't more people try to become every day superheros. He dons a costume and with zero training, goes out patrolling the streets of a mob town to try and bring some justice into the equation. He gets the crap kicked out of him and almost dies. This leads to his having plates put in his head which dampen his pain receptors and doesn't deter him from going out again and again. He's a junkie and this is his high. Along the way, he meets two real masked crusaders: Big Daddy and Hit-Girl. Hit-Girl is about 10yrs old but has spent her entire life training to take out the bad guys by her father.

This is a bloody and gore infested comic, make no mistake. I knew that going in and wasn't too surprised by anything in it but I just couldn't get into the artistic style of it. I get that it's supposed to be gritty and everything, but it was just ugly. I won't go out of my way to see the movie either but at least the movie had an artistry about it that I just felt the comic lacked.

Really good, totally get why they made a film out of this. Turned out to be surprisingly more adult than I'd first expected, and really liked that.

If these things don't bother you then you're in for a treat. This is a self contained origin story and original character(s) tale. It spoke to the comic nerd in me and was unabashedly honest throughout. Hopefully there is more kick ass in the future. Oh, and (for once) JR JR's artwork didn't annoy the hell out of me.

I've said it before and I suppose this is a perfect place to say it again:
    Kick Ass is KICK ASS.
I couldn't put it down. I have to go back to the book store today to finish the second one. Truly awesome. Although the movie is cool in it's own way, the comic is what got me really hooked. Lots of action and gore if you're into that, but it's also just well written, quirky, witty and funny. Definitely check it out.

The flow is good, it really is far more violent then the movie was, and the message at the end is far more interesting than the movie

    ***spoiler***

the fact that Big daddy made up the entire story about his wife dieing so his daughter could have a more exciting childhood was fairly twisted. The selling comics to fund their attack on the gang was oddly enough more believable then it should be. And the implications for Kick-ass, that all these RLsuppers are actually fairly crazy is somewhat foreshadowing.

    **********

For a first volume it has drawn me in, I want to see where Kick-ass ends up. will he survive his daredevil life? what will come of Hit-girl now? and what's Red-Mist up to? it's all very intriguing.
