This book has never ending suspense as you agonize over every detail begging for more. The ciffhangers at every chapter would seem to get annoying, but you will love how you just won't be able to put it down. This book is a marvoulous wonder of imagination that willl keep you pleading for Red.

Someone is shooting at Thomas Hunter. He runs for his life—zig-zagging, hiding, and executing some awesome martial arts—as men chase him through the streets of Denver. But when a silent bullet grazes his head, his world goes black and he wakes up somewhere else.

In darkness. He doesn’t know where he is. Hideous bats chase him, clawing at him until he loses consciousness again and wakes up back in Denver, in an alley. He manages to get to his sister’s apartment, clean himself up, and lies down on the couch.

Only to wake up in the strange place again. He finds his way out of the scary, dark place and into a perfect land, somewhere in the distant future. He meets kind people who embrace him, a beautiful woman, and embarks on an amazing adventure.

But still, every time he falls asleep in one world, he wakes up in the other. And as the stories weave together, Thomas discovers that the past, and his life in Denver, was destroyed by a deadly virus. He wakes in Denver and enlists the help of his very skeptical sister. The two set off to save the world, with Thomas traveling back and forth looking for clues and trying to convince everyone of his sanity.

Woo! What an amazing book. From page one, Black, by Ted Dekker, captivates, taking the reader on a journey of cunning wonder. It’s no surprise of this trilogy is such a huge success. The book ends on a cliffhanger, leaving the reader one his own adventure: off to buy book two. Nice job!

    Highly Recommended.

This was one of my first Ted Dekker books that I have read, and I absolutly loved it. The book was completely my style of genre (Sci-Fi, Action, Page-Turning-Awesomeness) and was a a true page turner.

    1. I loved how Ted Dekker used a Two Worlds Plot, switching worlds nearly every chapter.

    2. I loved how he created the marvelous personalities and traits of his characters in Black.

Ted Dekker is an amazing author who uses fantastic ideas about many topics and a Christian spin to some of his best works.

Best part about this book was the way he described the relationship we have with God and His love. He uses the man-woman relationship to parallel God's love for us. Passionate, protective and unpredictable. Dekker's book moved fast, had plently of turns and left areas of mystery even toward the end.

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS ON EARTH!!! If any book I've read was a Biblical allegory, this one is for sure. It's amazing! It's... GREAT! I LOVE IT!!! I must read the next book, Red!!! And then of course I'll move onto the last, White. I have requested both at my library today... but I'm so impatient. THEY MUST COME NOW!!!

Later: Ok, after reading "Red", the next book in the trilogy, I HAD to add to this. Did I say I love it? I LOVE it! It is not only REALLY good, if you get to the second, it is life changing. As I read, something about my faith seriously clicked. More on this book than Pilgrim's Progress, Hind's Feet on High Places, the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, or just about any other allegory I can think of. WOW. I almost cried after finishing the second just because of the experiance. But whatever you do, DON'T read the second first. All you'll do is rob yourself of any story. You'd ruin it completely. Actually as I read Red, a conversation that took place in Black just kept playing through my mind... the one about the Great Romance. :D EVERYONE MUST READ THESE!!! The only reserve I have is that it is very violent and quite graphic. I mean, it IS an allegory, and when we get to Jesus's crucifiction... that was a gory event. The allegory can only be the same. And some other things on the side... I am not going to say it is mild. It isn't, and I flinched quite a few times during the reading. In my opinion it was worth it, but if you prefer not to read violent books, the blood will get in the way of the story's point.

This book is about a guy named Thomas who is walking home one day and gets shot at by the New York Mob, runs away, escapes, but hits his head. He wakes up in a different world in a bad forest with black bats trying to kill him and runs away again. THEN he wakes up back at our world and doesn't know what happened. After a while, he ends up causing a virus to be created that will kill the world. The suspense! And it continues through Red and White. They are actually the basis for Ted Dekker's whole "Big Story in All of My Books" idea, I THINK. I'm not sure.
