I use this book as a teacher and as a writer myself. Goldberg's style is simple and direct: I reread this book every year (tmy excuse: I'm teaching it again!) and find something new. If you are looking for a good book on writing, on creativity, on being an artist--this is the primer.

I thought this book was excellent. One of my favorite suggestions Goldberg poses in here is the idea of a story circle. As an aspiring writer, I do crave stories and tried this concept once with a group of friends. It was astounding the variation of stories they came up with. You'll have to read the book to find out more. This was a book I checked out from the library, but, if you're trying to be a writing, I think it's worth owning because it has some great writing prompts. A friend gave me a themed journal based on the book called The Essential Writer's Notebook which includes some of her writing prompts.

Very basic writing guide. Ive read it over and over. And I'll tell you the truth--I didn't really get it till just this last year (2007 reading). Suddenly because I saw it working, I realized I was understanding on another level.

I like The Artist's Way better because it relates to creativity in all its aspects. However, I enjoyed the way she related Zen to the process of writing. I am going to approach writing with my class with a more flexible and open attitude after reading this book.
