This book helped me understand a little better why religion plays such a prominent role in American politics. Meachum uses a useful term "public religion" to refer to the appearance of religion in a country whose constitution repudiates any attempt to establish a "state religion." I found it quite interesting to see how the founding fathers make a great effort to keep the government secular as well as to learn that many of them were Deists.

Ok I got the point half way through and put it down. Good history perspective on the Bush government.
