Not his best work, but worth the time it took to read it. An enjoyable book if you want a light read.

A good story about how two people built an empire and found out that their children (3) just didn't cut it. One of these children during the war in 1944 shot a man an assumed his identity. Hitler became involved and this one son is extremely mean. The mother of this family has the guts when she finds out what is happening to put all her brains and money to work to stop her son and his awful plans.

Wrote this on 15th September 2006.

08 September 2006. MSN Class - started reading Robert Ludlum's The Scarlatti Inheritance.
    14 September 2006. 22:50 - I finished devouring the book.

I think this is the first RL novel I finished in a short period of time. Not that sure though. After The Matarese Circle, this is the second RL novel that is my favourite.

Elizabeth Scarlatti is my favourite character in this novel. She's just so graceful and intelligent and so clever. I like her strength and power. She reminds me of Kate Blackwell from Sidney Sheldon's Master of the But Elizabeth is better than Kate. I also like Matthew Canfield because he's so ordinary. He was not like those other protagonists in Ludlum's novel. He was so human. I just like it. Andrew Scarlett, Elizabeth's grandson, appeared as a wise young man to me. He was also brave. Such a likable man.

I had fun reading this book. I was just having a little trouble with the manners of speech used. A lot of profane and invective words were used. But then, it was the time of war. Times of trouble. The other thing I had trouble with was the dialogue in German. I don't know German; just very, very few words. Ludlum had some characters spoke in German. There was no translation.

This book, like the other novels of Robert Ludlum, sent me an unwritten message. Only the intellectual can appreciate these.

Her weapons: Money and Power. Her target: The most dangerous man in the world—her son. Elizabeht Wyckman Scarlatti has a plan—a desperate, last-minute gamble—designed to save the world from her own son, Ulster, an incalculably dangerous man who is working under the name of Heinrich Kroeger: Unless she can stop him, he is about to give Hitler's Third Reich the most powerful triumph on earth. Ludlum keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I love Ludlum and enjoyed this book. I really liked the plot but I was a little disappointed in his character development of the Scarlatti family. I understand what he was trying to do with the different family members but I didn't quite connect with them on an emotional level like I usually do with Ludlum characters.

ELIZABETH SCARLATTI WHAT A HEROINE.EVERY COUNTRY'S LEADER NEEDS A LARGE DOSE OF THIS MATRIACH IN THIER BONE. SHE IS A ROLE MODEL FOR THE MODERM CAREER/FAMILY WOMAN.
lUDLUM BLEW MY MIND AWAY WITH THIS ONE AND THE CATCH IS THAT IT WAS NOT OVERLY DESCRIPTIVE/DRAMATIC NARRATION AS HIS OTHER MASTERPIECES.
