Rick Sudder: Marine Corporal who is serving in Iraq. Jack is his mentor and has provided him with a male influence as he was raised by his grandmother. Liz is his girlfriend; the two have them have been through some tough situations. She became pregnant while they were both in high school but the baby was stillborn.
Liz Anderson: Rick's girlfriend who is graduating from high school. She is turning her life around while waiting for Rick to return home from Iraq. They have both been through a lot, including a pregnancy that ended with the baby being stillborn.
Walt Booth: Former 3-star Army general who has retired to Virgin River. He's the father of Vanni and Tom, who is off to West Point, and uncle to Shelby. Walt is dating Muriel, famous movie actress who has also retired to Virgin River.
Muriel St. Claire: Famous movie star who is trying to retire to Virgin River. She's dating Walt Booth.
Luke Riordan: A 38-year old, retired Army Black Hawk pilot, who warns Shelby he is not a relationship kind of guy, but he found that he couldn't stay away from her. He is re-modeling some cabins he owns on the river. He is engaged to Shelby.
Mel Sheridan: Nurse and midwife who runs the town's clinic with Dr. Cameron Michaels. She's married to Jack and the mother of toddler David and baby Emma.
Shelby McIntyre: After the death of her mother she moves in with her uncle Walt in Virgin River where she meets Luke, a retired Black Hawk pilot, who is known to not have serious relationships with women. She falls in love with him and he with her and they are now engaged.
Cameron (Cam) Michael: Doctor who was trying to start a relationship with Vanni before she married Paul. He's a 36-year old family practice/pediatrician looking for a committed relationship and ended up having a one-night stand with Abby, who is now pregnant with his twins. Cam has taken over Doc Mullins practice since his death of a heart attack.
Abby MacCall Crawford: One of Vanessa's air-attendant friends. Undergoing a messy divorce from her musician husband. She's pregnant with twins, fathered by Cam after a one-night stand.
Dan Brady: Former marijuana grower who is now working for Paul Haggerty. He turned himself, served time in prison and is now paroled.
Mike Valenzuela: Town constable who is married to Brie, Jack's sister. He's a former Marine and Sacramento police detective who moved to Virgin River when Brie moved to the town. They just had a baby girl, Ness.
Paul Haggerty: Building contractor who opened an office of his family's business in Virgin River when he married Vanni. He's a former marine who was also Matt Rutledge's best friend (Vanni's first husband). He's stepfather to baby Matt and is working on Preacher's home expansion and Brie and Mike's home.
Vanessa (Vanni) Haggerty: Walt's daughter and Paul's wife. She was widowed when her first husband, Matt, died in Iraq while she was pregnant with her son, also named Matt. She's also Shelby's cousin and one of Abby's best friends. They used to be flight attendants for the same airline.
Cheryl Creighton: Young woman who was the town drunk until her recent stint in rehab. She's completely sober and regularly attending her meetings. Mel was responsible for getting her a county-paid spot in rehab.
John (Preacher) Middleton: Former marine who is the cook at Jack's bar. He's married to Paige and is the father of Christopher and Dana.
Paige Middleton: Married to Preacher and mother of Christopher and Dana. She escaped an abusive first marriage by coming to Virgin River. Christopher is her son from that marriage but was adopted by Preacher.
Jerry Powell: Rick's counselor in Grace Valley. He's also, by coincidence, Liz's counselor and has been since she lost her baby at fifteen.
Jack Sheridan: Owner of the bar and restaurant in Virgin River where most of the people in the town gather for food and drink. He's married to Mel and the father of David and Emma. Former marine.
