Didn’t Like It“Not good. I've read several of Maggie Shayne's short stories and enjoyed them - this was not up to par. “I Thought this was an okay book, I like how Maggie shayne writes. This book tells the story of lilith a vampiress that was kidnapped as a newborn an raised in a government funded facility where the Chosen, (The kids that are born with a specific blood antigen enabling them to be turned into vampires) were taken and raised to be brainwashed government army. Lilith runs into Ethan, another chosen turned vampire that escaped the facility two years prior she decideds to return to "The Farm" (the facility) to try to rescue the other chosen. The book tells of the obsticles they face to acomplish her goal.
I didnt care for the way the book jumped around. It would go from first person with lilyth to third person with the rest of the characters. I would get kinda confusing in parts. It was an okay book I didnt lose intrest in the book but I was complelled to finish it either. I cant say that I was entirely pleased with the way it ended. It kinda left more questions. I hate that, Its okay if it is going to continue on, but if its a single book then I dont care for it.”

I've read several of Maggie Shayne's short stories and enjoyed them - this was not up to par. Admittedly, I have not read any of her other novels - but after reading this one I'm disinclined to give them a go. The characters are likeable if a little thin, and though the plotline is promising it unfortunately fizzles about 3/4 of the way in and seems hurried at the finish. Possibly one of the worst stand-alone novels I've read in quite a while.”

Needless to say I was a bit lost and that could be the reason this one just didn't hit the spot.
Lilith and Ethan are each part of a CIA project in which humans carrying a certain genetic trait are trained to become government employed vampires. The "students" completing their training are turned and let loose to do CIA bidding. Ethan managed to escape, leaving Lilith behind. But Lilith is one of the strongest and most rebellious the program has dealt with and she manages her own escape into the world, already changed into a vampire. At first she has no memory of who she is or how she ended up in this situation, but she does manage to find a safe haven with Ethan. Or maybe not...”
“This book brings many other of Maggie's together and explains some things we might have had questions about. DPI jerks need to be dealt with at some point... and this might be a great step towards that!
After only one kiss, Ethan and Lilith have this sizzling connection... and it's just.. amazing and horrible at the same time. You'll just have to read it to find out why.
We hear more about the Sisterhood of Athena, witness a mother in search for her kidnapped child, and grip our seats finding out if Ethan's brother, James, really is helping his brother or if he's the enemy as well.
Also, a fan-favorite - Rhiannon make an appearance in the book! YAY!
Overall, a great addition to the Maggie Shayne collection. ”
