This is the fourth installment in the Inspector Armand Gamache cozy mystery series. Armand and his wife, Reine-Marie, are vacationing at a beautiful, remote lodge in the Quebec countryside to celebrate their wedding anniversary when a murder occurs there. Armand must revert to work mode and call in his team to find the culprit. There are lots of twists and turns to the plot and the author keeps you guessing until the end who did it.

Excellent!! I've read enough whodunits to figure out most of them but this one kept me guessing until the end. Characters were well developed and interesting. I will definitely read more of this author!

One of a great mystery series. You pick one of them up and end up reading all of them in the Chief Inspector Gamache series

Another really good Inspector Gamache mystery. I have read several of them now and they never fail to be absorbing and I can't wait to read the next one.

Louise Penny has the rare talent of both drawing fascinating characters and freshening tired plots. In addition, the Canadian lodge setting was so vivid I could feel the mosquitoes biting. I just wish that I wouldn't forget about her when I go browsing in my library.
A must read for fans of the classic whodunit.

Bummer! After enjoying the first 3 books in the series immensely, this 4th book was a serious disappointment. I understand the author wanting to try a change of scenery, but this just did not work on any level for me. Even though the lodge is inspired by a real Quebec manor, it was not nearly as clearly drawn as the village of Three Pines. And being stuck there with the Morrow/Finney clan was both claustrophibic and dull. Peter Morrow was such an incredibly irritating character on his own in previous books. Making his family the focus of this book left me shaking my head in wonder at the author's choice. The murder was completely unbelievable. And the murderer's motivation even more so. Plus, meeting Peter's family, instead of garnering sympathy for his character, made me dislike him even more. A man near 50 that still calls his mother "Mommy"? Eeeeew! The only plot that held my interest was that involving Gamache's father. Not sure it was worth reading for just that information.

Suspenseful. I'm enjoying this series. The setting in this book was interesting as well.
