This has been my least favorite of the series so far. That being said it was still an excellent story with a lot of food for thought. I don't know if it was the different setting or the very dislikable family that were the main characters that made it not as fun to read as others.

I love this series and these characters. They are such a joy to read. Although the book is not truly suspenseful I could not put it down.

I enjoyed this very much, nice setting in Quebec, interesting characters and a good mystery with psychological and human interest. I am looking forward to the rest of the Three Pines series, featuring Inspector Gamache.

Armand and Reine Marie Gamache are on vacation celebrating their anniversary in a town near Three Pines when a murder occurs. So ends the vacation and begins Armand's investigation as the Chief Inspector. I liked that the murder did not take place in Three Pines but was near enough that we still visited the town. Reine Marie had a much larger role in this book which I enjoyed. Great characters and an interesting murder that kept me guessing until the very end.

memorable detective, very twisted family of the murder victim, and of course the surprise solution was just that.

Fourth in the Inspector Armand Gamache series. Penny provides an intricate plot with interesting characters.

A cozy, Canadian mystery starring Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Gamache and his wife have gone for a vacation at the Manoir Bellechasse, a lakeside retreat. Also at the hotel is the Finney family. When one of the Finney's is murdered, Gamache finds himself on the case. This was a perfectly good cozy, but cozies just aren't my cup of tea.

Really enjoyed this. Set in Canada. The first I've read, but will go get the rest of the series. She does describe her characters really well, so you really know who's who. And she paints a great description of her area as well ... this time at a lovely, country Inn way way out in the woods. Just delightful.

Very enjoyable reading. Armand Gamache and his wife are celebrating their anniversary at a the luxurious and isolated inn, Belllchasse near Three Pines. The Finney/Morrow family is also there for their annual summer reunion and the dedication of a statue to the deceased father. The statue becomes a weapon which kills a sister. A lot of clues, descriptions of the weather and the wilderness and the family dynamics are typical of Louise Penny mysteries. Gamache uses a psychological approach to solve the crime.
