Didn’t Like It“Read this several years ago but still remember the exasperation with which I arrived at the final page(somewhere in the 700's) and thought "Was it worth it?" No, not really.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Excellent as a stand-alone, or in follow up to Brock & Bodie Thoene books leading up to WWII. I learn more about history from the Thoenes than I ever did in my college history classes, and they bring it vividly to life. Sometimes Bodie seems intent on breaking my heart, as life is sometimes want to do, and she does not always spare the main characters. But, also true to life, sometimes she affords us some miracle and narrow escapes and welcome salvation. There is good character development, and you can just "see" Europe in your mind's eye, thanks to their detail.”

There are so many questions left unanswered. Some things make sense when you read the Zion Covenant and Zion Chronicles series, but there are still gaps in the stories. It is a little hard to read because it jumps around between the characters.”

WW II always seemed very real to me because my Nana lived in Wales during the war, and I have heard her tell me many stories. I loved this book because it really made her stories come alive, and made me understand the war much more. ”
