Once Upon a Marigold

by Jean Ferris

Christian is gaga for Princess Marigold. But he's just a commoner, and no match for royalty. Heck, he lives in a cave with a troll! And now he's discovered another reason to put his love-soggy heart on ice: Queen Olympia is scheming to take over the kingdom--and she'll bump off her own daughter to do it. Can Christian foil her diabolical plans?

I read this book when I was in the fourth grade and instantly it became my favorite book. I admit, I'm a sucker for tween romance novels but this one is interesting because of the the time period: Elizabethan -- minus the barbarity. Comparable to Romeo and Juliet, Once Upon a Marigold is relatively short with large print making it great for early readers (i.e. 4th graders).

This is my all time favorite book! It's the only book I've ever read more than once! I love fantasy books but this one is different. I'm so glad there's another one!

This is more or less a children's book, but it is still one of my favorites. I wrote a report on it in the sixth grade and I've read it several times since then. If you like Ella Enchanted, you should read this book because it's a fairytale-like story with a unique spin on it.

Another book I read just because my daughter read it. I love the way this book starts out. I was hooked from the beginning.
