There were a lot of things in the series I didn't understand, like the holes in the walls and the name suffixes, but this just explained everything. And it's also a great resource for the Uglies roleplay I'm in. x3”

I suggest that readers only read it after they have read all four books in the series, because it does contain spoilers if yoiu haven't read the, all. Some parts, like the hoverboard guide is written like a manual, though in other parts, the author writes in first person.”

The idea germinated when Westerfeld's friend went to a Los Angeles dentist who wanted him to embark on a five-year dental plan. Westerfeld found this hilarious and slowly the idea of a futuristic society divided between the Uglies and the "Pretties" developed into a series. ”
