On a foggy night, his car stranded in a ditch, a stranger walks into a house to ask for help. There, he finds a man shot dead in his wheelchair, and a woman standing nearby, a gun in her hand... An interesting story, a dash of psychology, an array of characters each of whom is, in turn, cast as a suspect, and a surprise conclusion. At times, it reads more like a play (which it originally was) than a novel. Still, worth reading. (Adapted by Charles Osborne)
