Andreas Riechen has lost the most important people in the world to him at the hands of a vindictive, crooked and politically corrupt Enforcement Agent. He is also a vampire on a mission of revenge and nothing is going to stand in the way against him getting it...except maybe the one and only love of his life in the person of his enemy's mate, Claire Roth.
Thirty years ago Andreas and Claire were young and madly in love and no one could have told them they wouldn't wind up mated for life. Then Andreas is set upon by a gang of other vamps, beaten and left for dead in a field. His near death unleashes a power that frightens and sends him away from his love in an effort to protect the world at large, but especially protect his love.
Ignorant of the reasons for Andreas's desertion or even if he is alive or dead, Claire spends the next few decades pining after him, filling in the time marrying a highly placed and ambitious Enforcement Agent in the person of Wilhelm Roth. Roth is power hunger and always has been and refuses to let anyone get the upper hand with him. Andreas had the bad fortune of unwittingly embarrassing Roth once. Roth never forgot and and has had it in for Andreas ever since.
Andreas and Claire are reunited when Andreas comes after Roth to get his pound flesh and he learns that his feelings for Claire never died. Unfortunately for Andreas, his gift doesn't care how he feels about Claire; it only wants revenge for the loss of Andreas's Darkhaven family.
Can Claire's love save Andreas's from the intensity of his revenge or will his gift and need for Roth's blood consume him?
This was an enjoyable addiition to the Midnight Breed series with enough sensual interractions and heated love scenes between the h/h and action and adventure supplied by the Order and their ever-continuing pursuit of Dragos and the Ancient. ”
