  • David: Old testament: Shepherd Boy who defeated the giant Goliath. He went on to become friends with Jonathan and eventually King of Israel.
  • Saul: 1. The King of Israel who preceded David. His son is Jonathan. (Old Testament)2. The name Paul had before his conversion on the way to Damascus (New Testament)
  • Paul: Originally called Saul, he was a persecutor of Christians until he had a conversion experience on the road to Damascus. He became a missionary for the gospel and established a number of early churches. A number of his epistles (letters) to these churches survive in the New Testament.
  • Solomon: Old Testament: David's son who asked God for wisdom. He coined many of the Proverbs.
  • John: John the Baptist (New Testament) was a cousin to Jesus, lived in the wilderness, and prepared the way for Jesus. He also baptized Jesus. The Gospel of John is in the New Testament. Also wrote Revelation.
  • Matthew: A New Testament Synoptic Gospel written by a man named Matthew--it was written for the Jewish People.
  • Jacob: Old Testament: The younger of a set of twins, he tricks his brother Esau into giving up the birthright belonging to the oldest son.
  • Mark: New Testament: A synoptic gospel
  • Joseph: Old Testament: One of 12 brothers, he was favored by his father and resented by the brothers. His brothers sold him into slavery in Egypt. He is later able to save his family from famine because he rose to a position of power in Egypt.
  • Aaron: Old Testament: brother of Moses.
  • Joshua: Old Testament: One of only two spies who recommended that the Israelites move into the Promised Land.
  • Peter: New Testament: An apostle known for his impulsiveness. Peter denies Jesus three times around the time of Jesus's crucifixion, but rebounds to become a leader in the early church. Two of his letters (epistles) are part of the New Testament.
  • Samuel: An Old Testament character.
  • Moses: Old Testament: He was born during a time when all male newborn Israelites were to be killed. His mother saved him by setting him adrift in a basket. He was found by the Pharoah's daughter and raised. He is called by God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and into the promised land.
  • Isaac: Old Testament: Son of Abraham and Sarah.
  • Jonathan: Old Testament: Son of Saul and friend to David.
  • Abraham: Old Testament: originally named Abrahm, he is the Father of the Israelites.
  • Jeremiah: Old Testament prophet often called the "Weeping Prophet"
  • Daniel: Old Testament character known for surviving impossible odds in the fiery furnace and the lion's den.
  • Elijah: Old Testament Prophet who was taken up to heaven in a fiery chariot.
  • Benjamin: Old Testament: Joseph's younger brother
  • Levi: Old Testament: Head of the tribe called out as priests to serve in God's temple.
  • Josiah: Add a description of this character.
  • Christ Jesus: New Testament: Son of God sent to earth to offer a way back to God. He did so by taking our sins upon himself and dying in our place.

  • Mary: The name of several characters in the Bible including:1. The mother of Jesus2. The sister of Martha who chose to sit at Jesus's feet and learn rather than help her sister with the meal preparations3. Mary Magdalene
