An enlightening (and humbling, as an "Occidental") view on how we perceive peoples who are not like us. I read this book for a History course on Imperialism, and would recommend it as required reading for any serious study of the "Orient," though I would encourage frequent discussion.

    ادوارد سعيد، فلسطيني تبار آمريكايي اي كه مدتها رياست دانشكده ادبيات تطبيقي دانشگاه كلمبيا را بر عهده داشت از معدود روشنفكران امروز است، كتاب شرق شناسي و نقش روشنفكر آن به همراه كتاب فرهنگ و امپرياليسم او از كتاب هايي است كه به هر انسان جهان سومي با فهمي مطالعه اشان واجب است!! و نكته آخر آنكه سعيد از لحاظ روش و طرز فكر به شدت از فوكو - پدر پست مدرنيسم و روشنفكري كه مرگش بزرگترين ضربه به جامعه روشنفكري فرانسه بود - اثر پذيرفته است.
