“Even for those who love to hate alpha heroes out of control, Captive Bride would be hard to take. Relying on some supposed women’s fantasies, the first half of the book is dedicated to kidnapping and forced bedding of the heroine by the hero. I guiltily admit that I enjoyed some portions of the first half of the book but - oh, the reader must pay even a bigger price than tolerance of forced sex. This is, after all, a 1977 publication and the “I hate you but can’t resist you sexually” behavior from the heroine, is rampant. For some reason (despite the sophomoric writing) I pushed ahead only to discover the Big Misunderstanding that takes over during the latter half of the book. At page 170 I could not endure it any longer and began skimming to the end and found myself peeved that I had forced myself to read the first half of the book. As I read the last 15 pages or so, I knew I had missed a great deal of frustration by allowing myself to skim.
Lindsey's first book and it shows.”
