“HAUNTING OLIVIA was, well, pretty dreadful. The beginning was fine, the story of a woman whose father "stole" her baby that she had at 16 and told her that it was stillborn. Of course, the "baby" is still alive, 13 years old, and living with Olivia's one true love Zach (also the father of the girl).
First, there's a lot of soft porn in the book. I'm not a prude; quite the contrary. This type of writing just makes me laugh. The book centered around "the Inner Beauty" pageant that was being held for 13 - 17 year olds in the Maine town. These kids were horrible; calling each other "bitch" "slut" "fat" anything you can think of. Not one of them had inner beauty, and the parents of the girls were pretty much crazed also.
There was just too much going on in this book. First, the story of Olivia and Zach. Then, Olivia and her father. Next comes Kayla and her bunch of competitors with the pageant. Toward the end of the book, so many other story lines happened that my head was spinning. A lot of it was just ridiculous.
I hate to totally trash a book this way, but I didn't really like anything about it. All of the characters were pretty much crazy, and there was just too much happening for my tastes.”
