Tesla was an incredibly intelligent man who doesn’t receive as much attention as he should. This biography offers a lot of insights into Tesla and the time he lived in. There were many times, however, when Cheney seemed to be writing to convince her readers how wonderful Tesla was.

I personally "discovered" Nikola Tesla in 1989 during a mountain retreat in the late summer. It wasn't due to a 'mountain high', but rather through one of many biographies about the man. Tesla is another good example of lies our teachers told us in that he is one of the most remarkable people in the history of the world, but amazingly most Americans get that glazed-over look in their eyes when you bring up his name. If you don't know about Tesla, consider yourself the wearer of an "I'm stupid!" tattoo now that you know the name because of reading this brief review.

Nikola Tesla has been one of my heroes since I was a kid, and this is the best book I've ever read about him. It's loaded with details about his youth and friendships, and its explores his personal life and mental problems using rich primary sources. It also has really good descriptions of his astonishing experiments, both in terms of their scientific importance and their mystery and sheer impressiveness.
