I cannot believe how much I enjoy reading this series. Since I rarely read sci-fi romance, I was slightly unsure whether I would like these books when I picked the first two books in the library (Parallel Attraction and Parallel Heat). However, when I settled down and started reading, I was hooked. The writing was beautiful, the characters highly sympathetic, and the plot is extremely complex but woven so expertly, it keeps me hanging and guessing.

Parallel Seduction is the third book in the series, and it’s the story of FBI linguist Hope Harper and the Refarian’s second in command Lt. Scott Dillon, characters that were introduced in the previous books. As a side note, to really get the full experience of the storyline, I would recommend to read the series in order.

Now we have Hope in the Refarian’s camp, plagued with haunting dreams of the gorgeous alien Scott Dillon and a future as his pregnant wife, while he recuperates from his injuries in the previous battle mentioned in the second book. Enter Jake Tierney, a mysterious time traveler with his own agenda and an inexplicable attraction towards Hope. Hope, turned between these two men, must allow her heart to choose while fighting her impending blindness, her weakening health and a kidnapping from their alien enemies.

Once again, Deidre Knight’s weave a story that leaves me enthralled, as I try to second-guess what would happen. She brings back other characters, most especially Jared and Kelsey, with their own challenges, and leaves me with an ending that satisfies, but at the same time, makes me crave for the next book just to see what happens next.

Have I mentioned yet how much I love this series? Science fiction, romance, a healthy dose of intrigue, and some very fun time-travel-twistiness--it's like it was written just for me.

Parallel Seduction features the romance between diabetic, nearly-blind FBI linguist Hope Harper and alien hybrid and second-in-command Scott Dillon that was begun in the previous book.

The war is between the Refarians and Antousians, with humanity in the middle. The Refarians are on our side. Scott, however, is half-Antousian, which makes him feel like an ugly outsider despite being king Jared's trusted second-in-command, and being known for his good looks. As a result, he tends to date humans. A lot.

Hope and Scott are barely acquaintances, but she's been having vivid dreams about him and their life together, and as they get to know each other better, it gets harder to separate the dream Scott from the waking one.

Then Jake Tierney arrives, saying he's from the future, bringing warnings about Marco and events that have already been prevented in Parallel Attraction and Parallel Heat. Scott can sense that the man is an Antousian, and questions his motives, but the dream Scott urges Hope to trust Jake, and since she's already drawn to Jake, she does.

Hope was a wonderful heroine. I already liked her in Parallel Heat, and she continued that wonderful blend of intelligence, strength, and vulnerability here. She had some pretty serious physical limitations, but she never let it stop her. She didn't go too far in the opposite direction, either--she acknowledged her limitations and worked around them. I sympathized with her, but never pitied her.

And with a hero like Scott, who would? He was vulnerable, too, in a typically masculine way (and no, I don't mean it's a macho vulnerability--just that it seemed a typically male mindset). He's confident of his abilities, but doubts his intrinsic self-worth. He's very self-conscious and ashamed of his Antousian side, and because of a previous disastrous romantic overture, he believes his peers share his disgust.

The two of them are well-matched, and it's lovely to see the chemistry and synergy between them.

There's lots of action and intrigue, and the time travel effects can give you a headache until you get them straight--it's like looking at those hidden-picture paintings. As in the previous books, the other characters don't just disappear--their stories continue. For example, king Jared is under increasing pressure to provide an heir, a matter that's complicated by the fact that his mating cycle never developed normally, and that it's unknown whether he can father a child with his human queen, Kelsey.

There are also some futuristic moral dilemmas concerning gene therapy and the origins of the Antousians.

I think there's enough information provided for Parallel Seduction to stand on its own, but this is such a complex series that I'd highly recommend reading them in order: Parallel Attraction, Parallel Heat, then Parallel Seduction. And Parallel Desire in December. I can't wait.

Warrior Jake Tierny travels back in time to stop the traitor in the King’s camp and protect his King Jared and Queen Kelsey. When he arrives at his destination he discovers that the traitor Marco somehow had a change of heart and is no longer a threat in the future. Now Jake is trapped in a time with people who don’t trust him, but he cannot let them know his true identity without changing the future. The only thing he can do is run and finds a way to get back to his own time. But then he sees her…. Hope Harper and he knows he cannot return to his own time before he really knows she save from the treat that is after her.

The King’s most trusted lieutenant and best friend Scot Dillon is the man for the job, he must chase Jake Tierny and take him back in custody. Scot is a human hybrid who has a hard time being around humans and refuses his Antousian nature. Now he must track one of his own. But when Scot finds out Jake took Hope with him, the hunt becomes personal. Nobody takes the woman he loves and get away with it.

FBI linguist Hope Harper is almost blind, but she refuses to let that stop her joining the people she love in the war to defend mankind. Now Hope learns the Refarians doctors can cure her blindness as well as her diabetes. But she doesn’t want to make that decision before she finds out what the dreams mean she is having about her and Scot Dillon. Now she finds herself running with a man called Jake Tierny and wondering if she could love two men at the same time.
Will she be able to make her choice between Scot and Jake?

Parallel Seduction is the third novel in the Midnight Warriors series and the novels are getting better and better. Deidre Knight has created a fabulous world with alien races and humans. It will keep your attention all the way through the book.

The main characters Scot, Hope and Jake are strong personalities and determined to do the right thing.
Jake Tierny, a warrior from the future who is determined to find the traitor in the King’s camp and will not stop until he finished the job. But he didn’t count on meeting Hope, the only woman he ever loved.
Jake knows he cannot turn to his own time, when he discovers that Hope is in danger. The only right thing to do is help her.
Scot Dillon, a lieutenant and best friend of King Jared is assigned to the job to track down Jake Tierny and bring him back in custody so they can find out who he is and what he knows. But the hunt gets personal when Jake kidnapped Hope, the only woman Scott ever loved.
Hope Harper, a FBI linguist is nearly blind but that doesn’t stop her joining the battle with the Refarians. Lately she is having dreams about Scot Dillon, the man who saved her life once and is determined to find out what that means. Only know she is running with Jake Tierny, a gorgeous warrior from the future. Is it possible to love two men at the same time or does she has to make the decision and pick one of them?

As secondary characters we see some returning personages. King Jared and his Queen Kelsey are fabulous, the scenes between them are great and I hope to see that continue in the future novels.
Marco and his wife Thea, he is the loyal guard of the King and Queen and she is the King’s cousin.
And last but not least is Anna, one of the security guard of the Refarians and the best friend Scot could ever have.

Although I’m not a huge fan of time travel and aliens novels I found myself comfortable on the sofa, reading this book with real curiosity. I really believe Deidre Knight did a great job creating a world where everything is possible, even mixing two species together. This novel contains all the stuff you need for a good story, a big and strong bond between the hero and his heroine, some third personage to shake things up and of course the enemy.
The next book in the Midnight Warriors series is Parallel desire and I cannot wait to see what will happen next.

How does Deidre Knight do it? The first Parallel book was exceptional and each installment gets better and better! Parallel Seduction has more action as the war deepens and affects the characters, more suspense as the parallel worlds touch each other, and much more romance.

When Hope Harper, an FBI linguist, is called in to translate the Refarian language, her duties bring her into contact with two men, Scott Dillion and Jake Tierny, an unknown factor who sets off alarms for all sides of the raging battle. Nearly blind from diabetes yet feisty and skilled, Hope uses her language skills and dreams to see beyond her the physical immediate reality. As Hope battles for her life and tries to choose between the two men, Deidre Knight delights readers by developing the stories of other characters. The exiled Refarian king Jared Bennett and Kelsey Wells battle Antousians and their infertility. Details of parallel worlds are given to shed more light on the past betrayal by Thea Haven and Marco McKinley. Although their story is not as prominent, the scenes and their context are crucial to understanding the betrayal and the entire parallel world effect. The history of the Refarian and Antousian animosity emerges in this installment, drawing the reader deeper and deeper to her finely created alien world.

While the war rages outside, Knight also shows the war inside of the dual creature. This installment delves deeper into the cruelty of war and the power of love. Knight's imaginative writing allows the reader to understand evil at its heart. The details of the love experienced by Hope in the heat of battle reaches a new height in the Parallel series. Readers will remember the exquisitely written encounter between Hope and the evil Antousian Veckus for many years. Stunning!

Deidre Knight tackles the issue of gene therapy. Knight's context differs from current political debates enough to reach the heart of both sides of several issues and the reader's heart. Her questions are both more philosophical and practical. The author views both sides and allows the reader to contemplate both without a simplistic resolution. Deidre Knight combines all the strengths of the paranormal romance and science fiction genres and creates a masterpiece!

Scott Dillon is an alien hybrid and is second in command of the Refarian army. The army has come to Earth to battle the Antousians and to keep Earth from suffering the same fate as their home planet. While Scott battles with his feelings for a human female, Hope Harper, he also battles with his disgust at his past. Scott was raised by the Refarian’s; however, he is Antousian.

Hope Harper is a FBI linguist, and due to her diabetes she is nearly blind. Hope does not allow her sickness to define her; in spite of them she is spunky and feisty. In the previous book, Parallel Heat, Hope and Scott are brought together while Scott is being held prisoner. After Scott escapes and Hope saves his life she accompanies him to the Refarian’s compound. During their time together both Scott and Hope have erotic and beautiful dreams of them together in the future. Hope also has a dream in which Scott tells her to go with Jake Tierny when he comes.

Jake Tierny is a time traveler, he has come from the future to stop a traitor, and only once he gets to his past he discovers that his actions are no longer required. Unable to prove himself as an ally he escapes and during his escapes runs into Hope. He claims to Hope that he loves her deeply and that they shared a future. Hope leaves the compound with Jake, as her dream told her to, and she finds herself drawn to Jake, much in the same way she is drawn to Scott.

Jake, Hope and Scott must discover the truth of their futures while they attempt to stop the Antousian’s from destroying Earth.

Parallel Seduction is the third book in the Midnight Warriors series by Deidre Knight. I devoured this book quickly and recommend ice cream for some of the scenes. I enjoyed the main characters and look forward to reading more of the wonderful secondary characters Ms. Knight has introduced. I have not yet read the other books in the series, however, I will be running out to buy them and I look forward to Parallel Desire, due out in December 2007.
