While entrapped Lachlian could only think of two things: Revenge and his mate that he was unable to find. After escaping the torture chamber he was able to find the scent that...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Wow, This is an excellent book. When Ms. Cole was recommended to me I didn't have any hope of enjoying her paranormals, as I'm not a big fan of the genre, but this one is definitely a keeper. The characters and plot are fantastic and the sex scenes are amazing, hot, sexy...and mouthwatering. An excellent read.”

I decided to read this book because it "spoke to me", it had this compelling aura that drew me to read it. There are really some books that silently scream for me to read them and usually I'm not disappointed, and since I'm writing a book review and not about objects silently communicating, I'll go on with the review.
This is the first book I've read from this author and I didn't expect much, but after browsing the reviews (not thoroughly reading them), it seemed like a good read, and it was. I enjoyed it from beginning until the end. It has just the right mixture of mystery, humor, blood, hot sex, mythology, and fantasy. This is original.
Technically this isn't the first story in the Immortals After Dark Series, so after learning that I stopped after a few chapters and read the story about Myst and Nikolai so I'd have an idea about the characters in this world. I immediately loved the characters, the concept, the story, plot, and the writing style. I loved the fusion of the classic vampires-and-werewolves-are-mortal-enemies theme with the presence of Valkyries, and a branch of vampires (forebearers), and that demons could be vampires too; and of course, nothing beats pop culture to add to that medieval thinking.
Emma and Lachlain were really wrong for each other...at first. Everything's confusing especially for Emma, who was very sheltered and one could only guess that she's insecure and always afraid, of pain mainly. On the other hand, Lachlain being the Lykae king, tortured by the vampires, inflicted a lot of physical and emotional pain on Emma. The characters developed at a really gradual phase and the writing was commendable. I loved the humor of their conversation, and of course I found the aunts at Val Hall great secondary characters.
For those of you who're looking for something fresh to add to your vampire literature, I highly recommend this book. I'm looking forward to reading her other works.”

Or rather he smells her. The one he had waited for, for at least a thousand years. See, Lachlain is a werewolf and apparently werewolves have this one person that is destined for them, called a Mate. And boy has Lachlain been searching for his. In fact, he spent most of his pre-captured life searching for her, preparing for her arrival by buying pretty jewelry and wondering where the hell she is so he can get it on with her and spawn wee little werewolves. The whole soul-mate thing by the way, SO HOT. Lachlain of course, goes slightly apeshit at the knowledge that his Mate is close by but he’s trapped in the catacombs and so, he taps into his gut wrenching horror at the thought of losing her and breaks free, amputating his leg in the process. It’s okay though, ‘cos Lachlain, that beautiful, delicious, hot Lykae that he is, can regenerate for he is an immortal and we next meet Lachlain when he is barreling through objects and people to get to Emmaline (much to her fear (not sure why. If a hot albeit rather grungy looking man is charging at me while growling, I’d probably run to him faster than you can say “slut much?”)).
