“If you like the Dune universe, this is a good biography written by his son. You get a glimpse of one of the best Science Fiction writers of the 20th century.
My critique is that it almost gets a bit sentimental in parts, and drags on in parts of Herbert's life that was, frankly, not all that interesting as it pertained to Dune. Overall a good read. ”
“Since Dune is such an interesting series, surely I thought the author of these books would also be interesting. And sure enough, he is. One of my favorite things about this book is the way it talks about how Dune evolved as a story over time. It's very interesting to read about Herbert's personal life and what affect it had on his work. I even especially enjoyed Herbert's reaction to Star Wars when it first came out.
Overall well written. It makes me wonder at times why Brian Herbert even really needs Anderson to work with. But whatever.
It's even just as interesting in this book to read about how some of Herbert's other stories came about. And if you're generally into biographies, I also recommend this book. ”
