“The outspoken journalist has done it again with his magnum opus. This is an a most important book for those interested in the history of middle east. Took me quite a while to finally finish GWFC but I wasn't disappointed. His brutal honesty is refreshing. He knows what he's talking about; he was there.”
“Osama is just a name !!! To know why people like osama exists , we should know at first Who has the more benefits in exisitance of them. western? meadle eastern? or ... . For sure there are some hands behinde.”
“Having just started this book, I'd say that so far it is an honest depiction of the state of the Middle East today., Something which the mass media and general public tend to forget. Kudos to Robert Fisk and to his excellent manner of relaying his experiences.”
“Actually, I borrowed this book from Jim, a new "friend" in the reading club. I've been reading the book on and off when I get the time. It's very detailed and loaded with first hand stories. Fisk is no doubt one of the few Westerners who really understands the Middle East. His writing rings with authenticity because of his personal experience as a war correspondent. In my opinion, it's is only because of his integrity that he's still alive. Osama bin Laden respected that about him. The story about how one of bin Laden's men had a dream about Fisk, that he was bearded with a turban and riding a horse, is incredible. Bin Laden took this to me that Fisk would convert to Islam. After Bin Laden related his interpretation of the dream to Fisk, with his men looking on and listening in, Fisk realized that this was a crucial moment because if he answered wrong, his life could be in danger, and he didn't have time to think about it. He replied, "But Sheik Osama, I'm a journalist, and my job is to tell the truth. That's all." Osama paused, looking at him intently, weighing his answer as his men looked on, and then replied, "Well, if you tell the truth, then you are already on the path of Islam!" It was one of the tensest moments of Fisk's life, and he passed the test. Any journalist who was less than honest would have failed the test, and who knows what would've happened after that.”
“To learn about what's happening in middle east & what motivates some to terrorism besides two exclusive interviews of Osama Bil Laden, read this book. Robert frisk was mIddle east correspondent for major publications for 17 years & has covered more of middle east than anyone else would have. Learn first hand from his experience.Highly recommended.”
