Old Man's War takes place in a future where Earth has begun to colonize other planets and needs to fight other intelligent life for real estate in the cosmos. The colonists are mostly from countries like India where over-population is a problem and in countries like America the only way to get off Earth and see the universe is to join the CDF--the Colonial Defense Force.
