Angus MacKay has a problem... he's got to convince the lovely Emma Wallace (who has been slaying malcontents for awhile now - she's killed 4 of them already) to stop her slaying. He tries to get her to see reason, that not all vamps are bad ones like the malcontents, and that it is also very dangerous, especially since she's human and alone when she patrols New York's Central Park with only her wooden stakes.

Angus is intrigued by Emma's warrior spirit and feels a deep attraction to her as well. Emma tries at first to deny her growing attraction to Angus and is too stubborn to listen to Angus's pleas for her safety and to stop slaying. Angus soon finds out all about Emma's past - her parents were killed by vampires (malcontents) and that she witnessed their deaths psychically as they happened. She is also a member of the CIA's Stake Out Team headed by Sean Whelan (Shanna's father). Angus and Emma work together to stop the evil malcontents from killing in the park and they also fight against Katya and her malcontents from doing even more evil acts.

Angus gets some relationship advice from his friend Roman, and learns that Roman and Shanna are going to have a half vampire/half human baby. Emma gets some assistance from Austin and Darcy while she and Angus are being held prisoner by Katya in another country.

This was a very entertaining and cute story....ex. Angus keeps looking under his kilt to make sure his "family jewels" are still there when he teleports. LOL I definetly enjoyed this one, this series just keeps getting better with each book and enjoyable characters. A Must Read!

Sparks makes great strides in this third installment of her Love at Stake series. Witty dialogue and an absolutely endearing Angus McKay (I mean, come ON, he checks under his kilt every time he teleports just to make sure! How cute is that?!) paired with an emotionally damaged but plucky Emma Watson make this book shine. How does a woman who's psychic abilities allowed her to witness the brutal slayings of her parents at the hands and fangs of vampires with a whispered, "Avenge Us," as a moment-of-death plea deal with the fact that she's attracted to the very sort of monster responsible? Good question! And Angus doesn't have the answer, though the fact that he's in love with her motivates him to try really hard to find one.

Overall the Love at Stake series is a bit lighter in tone and content than some of the darker paranormal romance series out there, and there are some aspects that grate on my nerves - like the leader of the Stake Out team, Sean Whelan, who's the father of Roman's wife Shanna (How to Marry a Millionare Vamp), and his vitriolic rhetoric gets tiresome quickly - but it's a charming, quirky series full of feel-good romance and very individual secondary characters that are nicely three dimensional. It also seems to be building in more complexity with the Malcontents and other dangerous, old foes. The series has a lot of potential.

    3.5 Stars...and bring on book 4!

Another winner by Ms Sparks, this is an excellent series, each with a twist. I recommend this & all her "stake" series.
