Meg MacKinnon has been raised to the clan leadership because her brother is somewhat retarded no fault of his own, and her father has been very ill mysteriously so, She needs to find a husband who will not only be respected by the clan but will also be actually good for the clan someone who can help Meg run the clan. Although her father is allowing her to find her own husband (due to motherly proding) and marry for love, she is finding this a much more difficult task than she first believe. Going to court provides more outside blood and noble blood that will be suitable for the task but on the way the guards and her mother and her are attacked by some (seemingly) rouges or thieves but these men dont seem to want any riches and appear to be out only for blood. just when her mother would be attacked after being knocked off her horse, a mysterious man blasts through the trees with his own men and attack the attackers saving the women and most of their onterage from impending doom. This man is striking and looks at her with a look she is not accustomed to a look of lust. She is much intrigued however when she encounters him at court there is a personal between them she knows he wants her and she is torn herself with knowledge of his heroism and other information to the oposite and as she battles this war within herself she also battles a war of attraction that Alex is also battling and Alex has a mission that doesnt originally include Meg. She knows he loves her and she knows in her heart that she loves him but
how will it work out when he admittedly refuses any thoughts of marraige due to his own self imposed issues of a past tragedy. As the story unfolds Meg learns much about herself and finds that she really
does respect Alex dispite the fact that he may be opposing to the kings plans and as she learns more about what the king has planned the more she respects Alex for his "rebellious" stand as well as his acts to repell her love and attempts to keep her out of the line of fire as it were. but no matter what he does he cant get her out from under his skin.
