I am glad to have read this book. Friedman is very well-spoken (well-written?), and his rhetoric is tasteful. I do not find myself in complete agreement with all of his arguments, but it was refreshing to hear his side of the issue in a well-organized, well-warranted format. On the negative...

Hot, Flat and Crowded? Try Long, Boring and Pompous. Friedman writes we are in a new era, The "Energy Climate Era" or ECE. The last era change was from B.C. to A.D. and marked the arrival of Jesus Christ. That he thinks he gets to initiate a new era is indicative of the size of his...

An important book. Very well researched, Friedman gives an excellent perspective on the challenges we all need to face up to. The book's great achievement is its global scope, as Friedman has incorporated his 'the world is flat' theory into the environmental discussion. On the minus side, the writer appears rather irritatingly patriotic, eager to claim for the US the 'green revolution' even when he himself falls into the trap of obliquely supporting unsustainable consumption. For example he suggests nuclear power as a possible solution to the coming energy crisis rather than investigating ways of cutting down on energy consumption.

Important topic, but the book was very technical. Friedman's cause is noble, but this is not a book that will inspire the masses to action.

This was a continuation of Friedman's analysis with the addition of climate change and the increase of world population.

Very Liberal. Overall very detailed and good, with very interseting points. Comparing America to the rest of the world is ok to some extent, however the entore book is based on this premise.

Thesis: America's use of oil and petroleum based products supports radical Islam, hurts the environment and threatens biodiversity. This was an attempt to break down a complicated, multi-faceted issue. The biggest problem I had with the book was all of the generalizations he uses to support his thesis. Nice try but logic was circular.

I've been reading Friedman's column for ten years... its not surprising that I find this title exceptional. Must reading.
