I am starting Temptation Ridge right now. I can already tell it is going to be as good as the others in the series.”

Seeing Mel and Jack again, mostly. It was also nice seeing Preacher/Paige and Mike/Brie. I also really enjoyed the Tom and Brenda storyline; I thought they were extremely cute, and Tom finding the 'magic button' and their first time was really funny.
What I didn't like? Vanni. I just really didn't enjoy her character at all. Paul made references to her 'fiery temper' or something, and that was part of it - when Paul told her about the 'other woman' and she got totally pissed - even though they hadn't been dating or shared feelings or anything yet - it kinda pissed me off that she wouldn't listen to Paul. Then she went on a weekend with another guy. Some other things about her bothered me, but I kept waiting for Paul or Walt or SOMEBODY to tell her she was being unreasonable, selfish, anything. But no, Paul went and apologized over and over. I liked Paul, but hating Vanni so much really made me want to just put down the book. I didn't want Paul and Vanni to end up together, it bothered me so much - I actually wished for Paul to end with Terri. But eh.
She was a little easier to deal with in the second half of the book - when it mostly focused on the other residents of Virgin River.
I however did enjoy Joe and Nikki, although Nikki's actions after they did it and ignored Joe afterwards, even as he pursued her bothered me a bit. But she'd just gotten out of a long relationship, and she came back, and so it didn't bother me so much.
All in all, I didn't really care for Paul and Vanni, but it was nice to see the rest of the characters from Virgin River. I can't wait to give the next book a try! ”
“I love this series. This is book five. Six and seven are coming up in the next few months. The people of Virgin River are like family. Wonderful personal dynamics. These Marines and their honor, love and sense of community are a great extended family to lock into.”

Theoretically, Second Chance Pass is the story of Vani and Paul. The first half of the book does, indeed, deal with these characters. Ms. Carr bypassed the opportunity for some real issues by having a possible pregnancy of another woman not result in Paul's child after all. Then that storyline just kinda fizzles away.
Therefore, with almost half the book still left to read, Vani and Paul get the HEA. The rest of the book kinda skips around between yet another relationship (Joe & Nikki), some old and well-loved characters (Jack and Mel, Rick & Liv, Preacher and Paige, etc), a near tragedy when Mel hemorrhages after delivering her second child; Jack getting caught in a forest fire; a mysterious sorta criminal (called Shady Handy because of his hat)that has appeared in each of the books of this series drifts in and out ; introducing a new character that obviously will have her own book next; and a new relationship between the General and a movie star. Then the book just stops.
Very disappointing. I guess Ms. Carr was using this one as some sort of transition entry to set up future books.
