“English 533: Shakespeare - Main themes are wrestling, honest vs. feigning, and pupil vs. student. I found this play somewhat interesting. ”

In this play, Shakespeare shows how life in the country is freer and less restricted than life that centers on materialism and getting ahead in the court. Some characters from the court are banished while others decide to leave. While living away, they discover love and learn how to compromise. There are absurd confrontations that involve mistaken identity. There is a hilarious love triangle that ends up in a happy conclusion.
I connected to the characters and the wonderful summertime setting. The easy flow and rhythm of the language made the play entertaining to read. I liked how Shakespeare used two different styles of writing, prose and poetry, to differentiate between the social ranks of the characters. I recommend this play to anyone who enjoys beautiful language, fascinating characters, and imaginative situations.

“Humorous in parts, but I didn't like it as much as the other Shakespeare plays I've read. ”
