In March 1703, Cotton Mather recorded in his diary: Our Captives in Barbary, have been the Subjects of many Prayers, among the People of God: and poor I have had a special Share in these Prayers: wherein also I received and uttered my Assurances many Years ago, that I should also have a Share in offering Praises to our glorious Redeemer; for the Answers of those Prayers.
