  “I read this in university for my Carribean Literature class. More historical than lyrical, James really gives a vivid and thorough depiction of L'Ouverture, the events that turned him into the warrior he became and what that eventually meant for Haiti and the rest of the Carribean. Read if you're serious about being informed.”
