I didn't like this much. There is meaning and signifigance to it, but I just wasn't a fan of it.

Clynical an depressing.I found the character of Elizabeth Costello (story within a story) very confusing.

Different from anything I've ever read. Bizarre and entertaining. I misjudged a couple of the characters.

A thought provoking novel. Not your run of the mill. Take your time to read it, mull over it.

This is VERY SLOW reading. It seems disjointed and hard to follow for me. Nevertheless, it was almost finished in an afternoon and evening.

hahaha... yes, I agree, Amihan. Do you have the feeling that Coetzee is out to depress you? :)

I was not impressed by this Coetzee novel which was disappointing considering how much I like him as an author. He seems to have taken a dip toward mainstream mediocrity in this one and the main character of 'Slow Man' is quite an unsavoury man on many fronts. I actually had to drop the book at some point due to lack of interest and slight nausea. Not his best. What ever happened to his finesse with language, his poetic reverie and his characters who warrented true introspection? The people and scenes of 'In the Heart of the Country' for example?
