A picture book by Gaiman and McKean that asks readers to enjoy themselves and others; to have fun with the world, crazy hair and all. The joy of Gaiman and McKean is that they love to play, and they invite the rest of us to join them.

Summary: This book is a poem about crazy hair, and all the things found inside. It is a very fun little book with interesting illustrations. Everything in the book is done in hair. The words are big and little and written all over the pages... This makes the book very fun to read.

    Class Uses:

how illustrator used hair throughout the book on tile page ect
    poetry
real life character Neil to the man with crazy hair and his daughter being the girl

    Summary/Review:
The rhyming in this incredible story of out-of-control hair seems nice for rhyming and getting students to predict the next line, but what I truly enjoyed most about this book was its illustrations. There are lots of details to be found, including the fact that one character's shirt kept changing each time she was shown, but the vivid colors used in the book speak to the fantasy world the out-of-control hair seems to hold.

    Uses in Classroom:
    - Read aloud with predictions
    - Picture walk
    - Discussion of rhyme

I enjoyed this, but not as much as other Neil Gaiman offerings in the past. It has some nice sinister content which may take a couple more readings to thrash out a bit-I'll get the boys onto it (My boys class). Dave McKean is brilliant as usual. My only issue i have is that all i hear when i read this is Margaret Mahy's "Down the Back of the Chair."

The illustrations were great but I thought there was something lacking....I really wanted to know who the man was. Was it supposed to be Gaiman himself?

Very odd story, but the pictures are vibrant and allow you to step into the narrative. Rhyme would add to it's readability, and new vocabulary could be introduced as well.
