“I love the series will keep on reading. I like that the creeping love story that has been progressing these past couple of books. This kid of reminds of me of the Anita Blake series, but with less sex and the heroine does fawn over her supposed lover a bit but not as much as Anita does. ”nappilicious wrote this review 23 hours ago. I really liked the story line and the new creatures they keep coming up with, especially revealing what Simone's true form is! “OMG this book kicked so much ass ,once you pick it up you won't be able to put it down.
Kate is just one bitchin chick ,I just love her ,I like that she will do whatever it takes to save the people she cares about ,push her powers are totally awesome and I love her and Curran together they just rock in every scene they have with each other :).
Curran is one of my favorite characters of all time ,he's sexy, funny, smart and I just want more and more of him and Kate ,omg the best part in this book has got to be the Hot Tub scene with Kate and Curran ,It's one of the steamiest scene's of all time :) .
I loved getting to see Derek again but I felt so so bad for him ,it was just awful what happens in this book to him :( ,I loved that Kate and him have a moment ,it was so sweet :) i'm so glad he's ok.
I thought the storyline about the Midnight Games was so interesting ,it was awesome getting to see Kate,Curran,Jim,Derek,Andrea,Raphael and Dali fight in the games it was totally bitchin' :),I just love how all the characters interact with each other ,they are all so funny :)
Overall this book kicked major ass ,it's just pure awesomeness.
if you love a good book then you need to read this series ,it just get's better and better ,it's got amazing characters ,totally awesome love story and a great plot ,plus you get to enter into a totally new world .”
“Kate Daniels books are always eventful but Magic Strikes is in a league of its own when it comes to Urban Fantasy action. I felt like I was climbing that intensely steep roller coaster incline. You know the one: “oh crap, shiiiit, omg… AAHH”. The first nine hours of this audio are scene after scene of off-the-wall action and the final 51 minutes come together spectacularly for that final drop a.k.a Chapter 28! I highly recommended this book *period*.
There’s definitely a lot to take in this third time around. We learn more about Kate and Curran which I loved. Daniels’ true purpose is finally revealed after two full books of frustratingly cryptic hints and speculation but I’m still not entirely sure what it all means. She and the Beast Lord make a ridiculous bet that can only end in disaster but admittedly, the fallout is wildly entertaining to witness. It also helped ensure that Kate and Curran were never far from each other which is guaranteed fun no matter how you look at it!
Curran proves that he’s more than just a pretty face by demonstrating on several occasions that he is indeed just as cunning as he is powerful. His actions as alpha surprised me at times and made his character even more interesting. Yes he rules with an iron fist yet he’s not unjust and not only does he follow Pack Law to the letter but, he can also quote it verbatim as he clearly demonstrates when he finally catches up with Kate, Jim, Raphael and Derek. Another highly memorable scene; this book has so many of them!
I’m not sure if this is a spoiler but I spent a large portion of this book wondering who the heck this Roland is. He’s first introduced as “the most powerful man in the world” but I feel like I’m missing something. Then again, I often have that feeling when reading one of Andrews’ books so it’s hard to say for sure. Their world is so complex that I often find myself getting lost in it which is also one of the reasons why I keep coming back for more!
The fabulous Renée Raudman continues to excel as the narrator of this series. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to “read” another Kate Daniels book again! Time to move on to Magic Bleeds; I’m impatient for Curran to collect on their bet!
“#3 in the Katie Daniels series. For fans of urban fantasy, paranormal romance.”Pam Bales wrote this review Sunday, June 16, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“Oh poor Derek, his beautiful face forever changed. Good as usual but what really did it for me was Curran and Kate together at the Midnight Games, just loved it.”SaturnNalia wrote this review Wednesday, June 5, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

Magic Strikes is hands down my favourite book in the whole Kate Daniels series so far. ~ Under the Covers
Kate Daniels has been asked to assess the Reapers, a team of warriors in the Midnight Games, as although they may look human their forms may hide something much deadlier. However, it isn’t just Kate who has been caught up in the Midnight Games and the Reapers, her friends in the Pack have also been pulled in, despite the Pack Law forbidding them to enter the Games, as the Reapers may hold a weapon key to wiping out all shifters.
Magic Strikes is hands down my favourite book in the whole Kate Daniels series so far. The combination of the continually growing tension between Kate and Curran; the awesome action packed idea of the Midnight Games and the shock of having Kate’s past rear its head all combine to explode on the pages of Magic Strikes and I loved it.
It seems at this point in the series I am reading them just as much to see when Kate and Curran will FINALLY stop dancing around one another and get down to business, as much as I am reading to learn more about Kate and her past as well as her latest adventure. They come soooo close in this book, it had me screaming in excitement and banging my head in frustration… and I really enjoyed every second.
As for the action and adventure, like the previous books it is packed full of the usual sword waving, magic casting and sprinkling of dead bodies and myths come to life. The addition of the Midnight Games, a gladiator type contest, was brilliant, it enabled us to learn more about Kate’s past and was a unique setting for the story.
As usual, I adored this book, it is full of humour, romance and action and I can’t get enough of it!
“The episodic nature of this series is particularly entertaining as it provides the unique opportunity of creating a detailed world combining elements from diverse mythologies. The focus in Magic Strikes is on Hindu mythology with a little Greek and Norse thrown in for good measure. Somehow it all manages to come together so seamlessly, thereby ensuring originality and avoiding the tiresome repetition that sometimes plagues the Urban Fantasy genre.
Kate's humanity becomes more evident with each installment as more information is revealed about her past and the origins of her power. In this book, she opens herself up to the highs and lows of friendship when her former sidekick, Derek, is attacked and Kate must join forces with the Pack to fight against powerful enemies in the Midnight Games, a Gladiator-style tournament whose ultimate prize is a legendary Topaz with the ability to subjugate the shapeshifters. The action scenes are well-written and exciting but readers should note that the tone is dark and gritty, and their are numerous gory descriptions as well as references to incest and cannibalism.
The supporting cast is fantastic from Andrea the reluctant were-hyena to Raphael the amorous Bouda Scion, not to mention Dali the vegetarian were-tiger and Jim the Pack security chief who must finally decide if Kate can truly be trusted. However, the best aspect of the book is the developing relationship between Curran and Kate. Their chemistry simply sizzles on the pages and their banter is hilarious.
In sum, the Kate Daniels series has taken the top spot on my list of MUST reads and I cannot wait to see what happens next.”
“Absolutely brilliant ...clever writing, amazing captivating storyline and characters make this one of the best UF series on the market. Each book is rock solid and adds a subtle, finessed layer onto the existing story that is our sword-wielding, wise-cracking super kiss ass heroine Kate Daniels.
The book has so many amusing moments you'll find yourself laughing out loud and startling members of the public if you, like me, take every spare moment - buses, trains, planes and waiting rooms - to stick your nose into a (preferably) good book of the fantasy or paranormal persuasion.
This review was written after a re-read as I was craving a 100% satisfaction guaranteed read, and had once again picked up this series to inhale.
An absolute satisfaction guarantee should be included with this book for lovers of authors such as Jim Butcher and Seanan Maguire who are founding alumni members of my personal Urban Fantasy Savant Writer's Club!
Be prepared to read through in one sitting as this book is rock'em, sock 'em power packed action thrill read - mis quote intended ;-)”
