Amy Treloar feels like she is the constant babysitter for her developmentally delayed sister Louann. After several fights with her sister and her mother, Amy stays with her Aunt Claire in the old family house Claire is fixing up to sell. Amy and her friend Ellen find a dollhouse in the attic which belonged to Claire and holds bad memories for her. Claire finds the dolls moved into the positions representing her grandparents' murder and becomes furious. Amy and Ellen research the murder. Claire throws a birthday party for Amy and Ellen, and at the last minute Louann comes to say for a few days. Though Amy is angry, the party goes well. Amy shows her friends the dollhouse and that night Amy and Louann watch the dolls and doll furniture move. Claire is furious again the next day, and Amy and Louann tell them their suspicions that the house is haunted. Claire reveals that she suspects her former fiance Tom had committed the murder. Claire, Amy, and Louann decide to check the shelf where the grandmother doll had been throwing out books, and find a letter announcing the caretaker to be the culprit. Claire feels at peace that the murder was not her fault, and Amy and Louann explore a new sister relationship.
