“Out of the Frying Pan
“This is a graphic novel about a bone and two of his cousins. The boys end up getting separated and having to overcome a bunch of obstacles in a strange world with scary creatures at every turn. This book is a great book for older students, because it is easy to read and the graphics make it rather engaging for most students. ”Samantha G. wrote this review 5 hours ago. “L. Out from Boneville, by: Jeff Smith
2. grade level: 4-7
3. summary: Phoney, Smiley, and Fone Bone get chased out of their town of Boneville because Phoney was too cheap. Phoney meets a girl named Thorn who gives him warnings about certain monsters being after his family and helps him find his family when he looses them. They work so that they can pay their way back to Boneville.
4. review: Although this isn’t my favorite graphic novel, it definitely has the potential to real children in with it’s mysterious and fun plot. I like that the names rhyme and that a lot of the names are super similar and metaphorical. This is a cute book and I definitely recommend it!
5. possible in class uses: learning about rhyming, alternate ending writer’s workshop

“After being run out of boneville ,Fone bone,Phoney bone, and smiley bone get separated by a group of locust. When Fone bone got separated he fell down a cliff .and woke up the red dragon. While Fone bone was searching for his cousins he met some people that helped him find his cousins.
When Fone bone went to sleep there was two rat creatures that wanted to eat him because they were hungry. When they were about to eat him the red dragon showed up and scared them away.”
“ Bone, Out From Boneville
In the book “Out from Boneville” by Jeff Smith, Fone Bone a bone creature out of two other gets kicked out of their home village, Boneville. While fone bone and his 2 cousins were searching for a new place to live a swarm of locusts came and separated the 3 of them. Meanwhile rat creatures are trying to kill fone bone. Will fone bone ever find his cousins before it’s too late?
Fone Bone is a short white bone creature who is responsible, brave, and mature. He is responsible because he goes and looks for his cousins instead of leaving them. He’s brave because he goes thru woods and other dangerous obstacles along the way. Lastly he is mature because he knows how to take care of himself while he looks for his cousins.
In my opinion I give this book 4 stars because it had a good introduction. It also has good pictures with details and shows how the characters feel because of their facial expressions. I like that they add humor to some parts. This book reminds me of the book lost because in the book lost the main character and his sibling gets lost in a town they’ve never been to before and it was up to him to find her. This is a really good book if you like reading humorous graphic novels.
