“A great classic. I had a slow time reading it due to the way it was written (language) but after a while it flowed freely and I really enjoyed the characters, especially Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. A nice love story too. What I enjoyed the most was the dynamic between the characters, the families, society in that time and age in general.”

Jane Austen was truly deserving of her reputation, I have tried 3 times to write a review and each time I wrote other 1 page of text so I will resign myself to simply saying this, the story is engaging and focuses on the Bennett family and their 5 daughters and their lives as well as trials that befall them like
SPOILER: When Lydia runs away with Mr. Wickham near the end of the book.
It also looks at human nature how well meaning people can sometimes cause undue harm to those they love, and how first impressions can hide the diamond in the rough just as easily as the wolf in sheepskin, also that with the right motivation, even the most set of personalities can be encouraged to change and be well dispositioned with the right motivation.
Each character is unique and the transformation of those who do change is authentic and greatly meshes with the story. Mrs. Bennet is as annoying and overbearing as can be expected (I found her really annoying when SPOILER AGAIN: she rejoiced in Lydia marrying Mr. Wickham completely ignoring the fact that he tricked her and simply wanted her to use as leverage to get money), Mr. Bennet is seen as a person who has married someone he does not respect nor consider his equal but is duty-bound to remain beside.
A timeless favorite 5/5.

I tried to read it in English, which I'm pretty good at, but not when the writting is a bit oldfashioned. Perhaps I will enjoy the book more in Dutch. ”

My Review: It was a cute story. The opening paragraph hit the nail on the head with what the story was all about. The interaction between the daughters and their parents was intriguing. I can understand why this story has been adapted as much as it has. I wasn't obsessed with the words so much as I would hope to be. The scenery descriptions were fair.
One of my favorite adaptations to this story was the recent Bride & Prejudice. View the trailor here: http://www.truveo.com/Bride-and-Prejudice-Trailer/id/3533492934.
